The Emperor of Cyrodiil has been slain, and the world of Tamriel is being thrown into chaos. It's now up to one adventurer to find the heir to the throne in order to shut the doors to Oblivion and seal away the evil that lurks within.

Bethesda Softworks and 2K Games have released The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion for the Xbox 360 and PC gaming platforms. Before its release, the game had already received several awards, including Best of E3 2005 by several magazine publishers.

Like previous Elder Scrolls games, such as Morrowind, Oblivion features a great amount of freedom. Players can advance the story at their own pace while they complete an almost endless supply of sidequests and explore a vast enviornment. Oblivion advances this even further with a new artificial intelligence that Bethesda has named Radiant AI. This system allows the non-playable characters in the game to make their own choices based on other events/surroundings.

The game takes place in Cyrodiil, the capital province of Tamriel (the world of The Elder Scrolls), which borders on Morrowind. Like any Elder Scrolls title, the story of Oblivion is not directly connected to any previous game.
Oblivion: Dark Brotherhood Quest

This is the first Dark Brotherhood quest, and is something of an "initiation" that will allow you to join this group of assassins. But first, to even get this quest, you'll need to commit the act of murder.

In order to get the Dark Brotherhood's attention, you need to kill someone without provocation. This means that bandits and quest enemies don't count. You need to find someone walking on the road, or sitting in their house— someone who wishes you no harm and doesn't deserve to die.

Try to avoid killing anyone important. In Oblivion, characters who are central to important quests cannot be killed (they simply go unconcious and are revived later). However, some characters who are helpful in quests can be killed. If a character is involved in a quest, the icon when you approach them will turn to a crown. Avoid killing these people, if possible.
Once you've killed someone, find a secure location to spend the night. This could be your home, or a bedroll at a campsite. (You might need to take out a bandit if you find a bedroll.)

When you wake up, you'll find a man in dark robes standing over you. He'll introduce himself as Lucien Lachance, a speaker for the Dark Brotherhood. He informs you that your brutal act has caught the Night Mother's attention, and that you've been invited to join the Dark Brotherhood. But first, you must complete a task.

If you're interested in joining the Brotherhood, you must fulfill an assassination request. Your mark is a man named Rufio, who can be found in the Inn of Ill Omen, just north of Bravil. Lucien gives you the Blade of Woe as a gift.

If you head to the inn, the owner will tell you that Rufio stays in the basement. You'll find a hatch just to the right of the door that leads outside. Most of the time, you'll find Rufio asleep. You can choose to kill him immediately or wake him and let him know he has to die.

Here's a great chance to increase your Sneak skill. Click the sneak button and walk around the room while Rufio is asleep. As you do, you'll gradually increase your Sneak skill. We recommend you do this until you get too bored, since Sneak skill can be invaluable for Dark Brotherhood and Theives Guild quests..
Once he's dead, go to sleep again (in a secure place) and Lucien will return. He'll welcome you into the Dark Brotherhood. He'll also give you instructions on how to enter the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary in Cheydinhal. You'll be sent there to speak with Ocheeva and Vicente Valtieri and move on to the next quest: Watery Grave.

Oblivion: Dark Brotherhood Quest

Valen Dreth. If your memory goes back far enough, you'll remember this guy from the very beginning of your game. He was your neighbour in the Imerial Prison, taunting you from his cell.

Now, he has to die.

You'll need to retrace your steps from your original escape from the Imperial sewers. Vicente gives you a key to open the gate into the sewers. From there, follow the map markers until you reach the prison.

As long as Valen Dreth dies, the contract is fulfilled. However, if you want to earn your bonus, you need to sneak your way in. If any Imperial Guards die in the process, your bonus is lost.

The best way to get in undetected is to combine a reasonable Sneak skill with an Invisibility spell or potions. You can buy the potions in various locations, or get the spell from a merchant in the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary.

When you finally reach your former cell, you'll need to wait. Valen and a guard are having an interesting conversation about his upcoming release. Once the guard walks away, you'll have the opportunity to strike. You can speak to Valen if you wish. He's easy to kill, and with a ranged spell or arrows, you don't need to open his cell.

Vicente will give you a gold reward, and if you fulfilled the bonus, the Scales of Pitiless Justice (which gives you a +2 bonus to strength, intelligence and agility. Next, you move on to The Assassinated Man.
